Caroline Mitchell

Mitchell served as a police detective in England, on domestic abuse and child protection among other things, and began writing crime novels while still in the job before leaving to do it full time. The Ruby Preston and Amy Winter books use the procedure rather than gesturing at it, and Don't Turn Around drew on a case she had worked. She has said the paranormal thread in some of the early books came out of a house she lived in as a child. She now publishes several a year and has sold heavily through digital editions.
