Jill McGown (1947-2007) built her crime fiction around the evolving partnership of police officers Lloyd and Judy Hill. A Perfect Match began the sequence in 1983, and the series eventually reached thirteen novels. Murder at the Old Vicarage is the American title of Redemption, while Death in the Family was first published in Britain as Births, Deaths and Marriages. Scene of Crime and Verdict Unsafe also belong to the Lloyd and Hill books. McGown balanced intricate puzzles with the investigators' changing personal relationship, a feature highlighted in Val McDermid's Guardian obituary. A television adaptation of A Shred of Evidence, titled Lloyd & Hill, appeared in 2001.
