Author: Caroline Tung Richmond
The Only Thing to Fear opens eighty years after the Axis powers won the Second World War and split the United States between them, following a teenage girl in occupied Virginia who turns out to carry a power the regime hunts. Richmond published it in 2014 and went back to the same altered world in Live in Infamy four years later, a companion rather than a sequel, set in the Japanese-held western territory. She studied history, which shows in how much ordinary detail she puts into the alternative. Her other novels are The Darkest Hour, about a young American agent in occupied France, and The Great Destroyers, in which the Cold War is fought out through televised bouts between giant machines. She co-edited the anthology Hungry Hearts and co-wrote Great or Nothing. She lives in Maryland.
