Catherine Spangler
Catherine Spangler is an American romance novelist best known for combining speculative settings with relationship-driven plots. Before publication, she worked in accounting while developing the manuscript that became Shielder. That debut earned the Emily and On the Far Side awards and reached the finalist lists for both the Maggie and Golden Heart. It launched a five-book futuristic romance sequence about Shielders surviving conflict across an expanding galactic setting. Shamara, published by Dorchester in 2001, is the third Shielder novel, following Shielder and Shadower and preceding Shadow Crossing and Shadow Fires. Spangler later turned to paranormal romance and urban fantasy in the Sentinel series, beginning with Touched by Darkness. Reference sources identify her as a Texas-based writer and record Romance Writers of America affiliations. Her catalogue therefore links award-recognized early work, space-opera romance, and later supernatural fiction through sustained attention to danger, loyalty, and intimate bonds.
