Cecily Anne Paterson

Cecily Anne Paterson is an Australian author and editor who writes fiction for middle-grade and early teenage readers. Her books frequently focus on friendship, family, courage, and the difficulty of finding a voice within a group. Invincible is the second novel in her three-book Invisible series, following Invisible and preceding Being Jazmine. The series centers on Jazmine Crawford, a partially deaf teenager learning to navigate school relationships, grief, and a hearing world. In the sequel, Jazmine's growing confidence is tested by changing friendships and a relationship that makes her reconsider her own boundaries and choices. Paterson keeps the story close to Jazmine's perspective, using school, music, family conversations, and private reflection to show development rather than presenting confidence as an instant transformation. Her other work includes the Coco and Charlie Franks novels, the Kangaroo Valley School stories, and books co-written with Penny Reeve under the shared name Ella Shine. Across these projects, Paterson writes for clearly defined younger audiences without simplifying their emotional concerns.
