Cesar Millan
Millan crossed the American border illegally at twenty-one with no English, built a business rehabilitating dogs other trainers had given up on, and turned it into a television career. The method rests on calm-assertive leadership and on dominance ideas drawn from wolf pack research that David Mech, the biologist who produced it, has spent years publicly retracting. Veterinary behaviourists and the main American behaviour organisations reject the aversive techniques used on screen and argue they increase fear-based aggression. He has faced litigation over attacks at his centre. His defenders point at dogs that were otherwise going to be destroyed, and that is the honest shape of the disagreement.
