Charles Belfoure

Charles Belfoure is an architect who trained at Pratt Institute and Columbia, specialised in historic preservation, and taught at Pratt and at Goucher College in Maryland before he wrote fiction. The Paris Architect, his first novel, came from Sourcebooks Landmark in October 2013. Lucien Bernard is an architect in Paris in 1942 who takes money from an industrialist to design hiding places for Jews, spaces fitted into chimneys and cupboards that a search will not turn up, and who starts the work for the fee and the technical problem rather than from conviction. Malcolm Gladwell named it his book of the year in The Guardian, and it reached the bestseller lists in 2015. Belfoure has since written The Fallen Architect and House of Thieves.
