Christine Grabowski debuted as a novelist with Dickensen Academy, a boarding-school mystery combining teen friendship and contemporary fantasy. Fourteen-year-old Autumn Mattison accepts a place at a fine-arts school in the Cascade Mountains after experiencing vivid dreams. Other students arrived through similar dreams, and Autumn discovers that the academy selected them for an ability linked to receiving and creating dreams. The Wild Rose Press published Dickensen Academy in 2018. Grabowski develops its mystery through Autumn’s friendships, artistic ambitions, and doubts about the institution’s hidden purpose. She studied at the University of Washington, earned an MBA from the University at Albany, and worked in technical writing, marketing, and consulting. Grabowski describes Dickensen Academy as young teen fantasy spanning middle-grade and teenage readership, using telepathy and dream-making to examine confidence, conformity, and judgment.
