Claire McFall
Claire McFall studied film and media at Stirling, taught English in secondary schools for about ten years, and published Ferryman in 2013. It recasts the ferryman of Greek myth as a love story: Dylan is killed in a train crash and Tristan guides souls like hers across a wasteland. The book won the Scottish Children's Book Award and was nominated for the Carnegie Medal, then found a readership in China far larger than anything it had managed at home, and Legendary Entertainment took the film rights. Trespassers, from 2017, picks the pair up after they have forced their way back into the world of the living, which fate never intended and which shows other souls the same route out. Her separate novel Black Cairn Point won the first Scottish Teenage Book Prize. McFall left teaching to write full time and now lives in Colorado.
