Clinton Romesha
Red Platoon describes the battle of Kamdesh in October 2009, when roughly three hundred Taliban fighters attacked an American outpost held by fifty-three men at the bottom of a valley ringed by mountains, a position the army had already decided to abandon. Eight Americans died. Romesha took the Medal of Honor for leading the counterattack that retook the camp. He wrote the book to put the names of the men who were there on the record and to describe the decision that placed them in that valley, which is plainly the part he is still angry about. He works in the North Dakota oil fields.
