Corey Redekop
Corey Redekop is a Canadian novelist whose fiction uses satire and speculative premises to examine literary culture and social belonging. Shelf Monkey, his debut novel, follows Thomas Friesen into a giant bookstore and a secretive circle of readers who put books and literary reputation on trial. ECW Press published the novel in 2007, and its comic attack on commercial taste established Redekop’s interest in the uneasy relationship between art, marketing, and fandom. He later wrote Husk, a darkly comic novel narrated by an actor who discovers that death has not ended his career problems. Redekop grew up in northern Manitoba, studied law in New Brunswick and later pursued library and information studies before working in publishing. Public author profiles also connect him with New Brunswick’s literary community. His professional experience among booksellers, librarians, writers, and publicists gives Shelf Monkey a sharply observed setting, while his later work extends the same skeptical humour into horror and speculative fiction.
