Hari Kunzru explores technology, identity, politics and popular culture through fiction and essays. Transmission follows Arjun Mehta, an Indian computer programmer who accepts a California job and releases a computer virus named after film star Leela Zahir. The novel moves among Silicon Valley, London and Bollywood while tracing the consequences for Arjun, Leela and marketing executive Guy Swift. Kunzru's other novels include The Impressionist, My Revolutions, Gods Without Men, White Tears, Red Pill and Blue Ruin. The Booker Prizes records that The Impressionist received the 2002 Betty Trask Award and the 2003 Somerset Maugham Award. The New Yorker has published his journalism and short fiction, and his fellowships include awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, the New York Public Library and the American Academy in Berlin.
