D. W. Vogel
D. W. Vogel brings professional knowledge of animals to science fiction and fantasy concerned with survival and the practical consequences of imagined technology. Horizon Alpha is the shared name at the center of her teen dinosaur-survival series from Future House Publishing. Its first novel, Predators of Eden, follows rookie soldier Caleb Wilde after the generation ship Horizon Alpha reaches Tau Ceti and its colonists discover a world inhabited by dinosaurs. Transport Seventeen and Homecoming continue Caleb's struggle to protect the remaining human settlement, while later companion novels Horizon Beta and Horizon Delta examine other parts of the same future. Vogel is also a veterinarian, board-game developer, cancer survivor, and scuba diver. Those experiences support fiction that treats unfamiliar creatures and dangerous environments as systems rather than scenery. Her public talks likewise connect storytelling with science, gaming, and craft, giving the Horizon books a perspective shaped by both professional observation and speculative adventure.
