Daniel Suarez
Daemon found no publisher, so its author brought it out himself in 2006 through a company he set up, under the byline Leinad Zeraus, his own name reversed. Programmers and technology bloggers passed it around until Dutton bought it and reissued it under his real name, Daniel Suarez, in 2009. Before that he had spent years as a systems consultant to large corporations, building software for defence, finance and entertainment clients, having taken a degree in English literature at Delaware and taught himself to code. Change Agent, published in 2017, is set in a 2045 Southeast Asia where cheap gene editing has slipped out of the laboratories and into a black market, and follows an Interpol officer who wakes up wearing the body of the man he was hunting. Suarez has also published Freedom, Kill Decision, Influx, Delta-v and Critical Mass, and has spoken at TED Global, the MIT Media Lab and the Long Now Foundation.
