Claire Merle
Claire Merle constructs a divided future around identity, diagnosis, and institutional power in The Fall. This sequel concludes the two-volume Glimpse sequence after The Glimpse. Ana has learned that the categories separating approved citizens from people labeled with disorders were manipulated, but exposing that deception does not immediately produce a just alternative. Shifting alliances and resistance force her to decide whom she can trust as the social order fractures. Faber and Faber issued the sequel in 2013. Merle was born in France, grew up in England, and later returned to France, a background that accompanies fiction attentive to borders and belonging. The Fall moves Ana from private uncertainty toward public responsibility, asking what institutions and relationships should replace a discredited system once its claim to scientific certainty has fully collapsed.
