Darlene J Sadlier is a scholar of Portuguese and Brazilian literature and a professor emerita at Indiana University. The Lilly Library from A to Z presents selected objects from Indiana University’s rare-book and manuscript collections in an alphabetical sequence designed for general readers. Indiana University Press published the illustrated volume in 2019 under the fuller title The Lilly Library from A to Z: Intriguing Objects in a World-Class Collection. Sadlier moves from books and manuscripts to maps, photographs, music, and other unusual holdings, using each entry to explain why an object matters and how it entered a larger cultural record. Her work as a researcher and teacher gives the book scholarly grounding without turning it into a specialist catalogue. A digital companion created with Lilly Library curators also explored selected objects through three-dimensional visualization. The Lilly Library from A to Z joins Sadlier’s academic interests with an accessible introduction to collecting, preservation, and the stories held by a research library.
