Darlene Scalera contributed to the Heartskeep and Code Red series. Hard Rain is the sixteenth Code Red title and takes place as a hurricane approaches the coastal town of Turning Point, Texas. Emergency volunteers arrive to help, while Amy Sherwood confronts Jesse Boone, the man who disappeared from her life fourteen years earlier. The story combines disaster response with questions of identity, separation, and a son whose history links the central characters. Book records date the novel to 2004 and identify it as a Silhouette Select publication. Scalera studied at Syracuse University before publishing her first novel, A Man for Megan, in 1999, and she went on to write numerous category romances. In Hard Rain, the approaching storm provides more than scenery: evacuation, rescue work, and uncertainty compress the time available for Amy to decide what she believes about Jesse. The novel will appeal to readers who like reunion stories shaped by emergency stakes and a long-concealed family connection.
