Kirk presents an authorized life story in the voice of the fictional Starfleet captain. Titan Books issued the hardback in 2015 and a paperback in 2016. Goodman arranges the memories of Kirk as a narrative, moving from childhood and Starfleet training through command of the Enterprise and later life. Familiar events are joined by imagined reflections on friendship, leadership, family, and the cost of command. The edition identifies Goodman as editor of the account, preserving the fictional premise, and includes illustrations by Russell Walks. The Autobiography of James T. Kirk draws on the screenwriting experience of Goodman while giving readers a companion to the Star Trek stories.
