David B. Coe has written epic fantasy, contemporary urban fantasy, and historical mysteries, the latter under the name D. B. Jackson. Spell Blind opens the Case Files of Justis Fearsson trilogy, published by Baen Books, and introduces a former police detective working as a private investigator in Phoenix. Fearsson is also a weremyste whose magical abilities become stronger and less predictable with the moon, giving his investigations a personal cost as well as a supernatural dimension. The sequence continues with His Father's Eyes and Shadow's Blade. Coe previously received the William L. Crawford Fantasy Award for his debut and built the Winds of the Forelands and Blood of the Southlands series with Tor. His Thieftaker books under the Jackson name combine mystery with historical fantasy. Spell Blind brings those interests together in a modern setting, using procedural inquiry, magic, and Fearsson's uncertain control of his gift to establish the trilogy's central tension.
