David Bushman

Hazel Drew, a twenty-year-old domestic servant, was found in a pond at Sand Lake in upstate New York in July 1908, and nobody was ever charged. Mark Frost heard a version of the story from his grandmother as a boy and it became part of Laura Palmer when he and David Lynch made Twin Peaks. David Bushman and Mark T. Givens went back to the coroner's records, the Troy newspapers and the witness statements to reconstruct what actually happened, and Frost supplied the foreword. Thomas and Mercer published it in January 2022. Bushman was a curator at the Paley Center for Media in New York and has written several books on Twin Peaks, including Conversations with Mark Frost, so he came to the case sideways, through the television rather than the crime.
