David Marcum is a Sherlockian anthology editor devoted to new adventures shaped by Arthur Conan Doyle's original Holmes and Watson stories. He conceived the MX anthology project in 2015 and has since selected hundreds of traditional pastiches from an international group of contributors. The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories – Part V gathers Christmas Adventures edited by Marcum, with stories, a poem, and forewords from writers and Sherlockians including Jonathan Kellerman, Roger Johnson, Ashley D. Polasek, and many others. MX Publishing released the 564-page fifth installment in 2016 as part of a collection that directs contributor royalties to Stepping Stones School at Undershaw, Conan Doyle's former home. Marcum also writes his own Holmes fiction, including the novel A Quantity of Debt and the collections The Papers of Sherlock Holmes and Tangled Skeins. His editorial work favors recognizable characterization, period atmosphere, and cases that extend the canonical tradition without replacing it.
