David McKittrick

David McKittrick has reported on Northern Ireland since the 1970s, working for the Irish Times and BBC before becoming the Independent's Ireland correspondent. He wrote Making Sense of the Troubles with historian and teacher David McVea, combining journalistic experience with a chronological account of the conflict's political and social roots. First published by Blackstaff in 2000, the history follows developments from the creation of Northern Ireland through the violence that began in the late 1960s and the subsequent peace process. A revised Penguin edition incorporates later changes, including power sharing, the IRA's ending of its armed campaign, and the verified decommissioning of weapons. McKittrick's other collaborative work includes Lost Lives, a record centered on people who died during the conflict.
