David Sheff

David Sheff is an American journalist and author known for long-form interviews and narrative nonfiction. All We Are Saying grew from his extensive September 1980 conversations with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, conducted for Playboy and later arranged as a book. The exchange ranges across their music, creative partnership, family life, politics, the Beatles, and the ways each understood the other's art. St. Martin's Griffin issued a later edition with new introductory material by Sheff and Ono, preserving the immediacy of the original dialogue while adding retrospective context. Sheff's interviewing style favors sustained, open questions that allow subjects to explain changes in belief over time.
