Anne Griffin was born in Dublin in 1969 and lives in Mullingar, County Westmeath. She spent eight years selling books for Waterstones in Dublin and London and more than twenty working for charities, among them Women's Aid, Youth Work Ireland and the Dyslexia Association of Ireland, then read for a master's degree in creative writing and started writing in 2013. Her short fiction won her the John McGahern Award for Literature and a place on the shortlist for the Hennessy New Irish Writing Award. When All Is Said, published in 2019, was her first novel. Maurice Hannigan, eighty-four years old, sits at the bar of a hotel in the Irish midlands and raises five toasts, one to each of the people who made him what he is. It took Newcomer of the Year at the An Post Irish Book Awards that year. Listening Still followed in 2021 and The Island of Longing in 2023, and her work has been translated into more than twenty languages.
