Davonna Juroe
Davonna Juroe writes fiction that draws on folklore, gothic atmosphere, suspense, and historical settings. Scarlette reimagines elements of Little Red Riding Hood in a story set in France, where familiar motifs of the forest and the threatening wolf acquire a darker narrative context. Juroe’s interest in legends, ghost stories, and unusual historical material informs that approach. Her other books include Winterbay Abbey and Seeing Red, works that likewise place mystery or danger within strongly imagined settings. Based in the Seattle area, she has described a long-standing attraction to storytelling and to the unsettling possibilities within traditional tales. Scarlette was her first published novel and introduced the blend of fairy-tale inheritance and gothic suspense that became associated with her early work. Rather than simply repeating the old story, the novel uses a recognisable framework to build questions about identity, fear, and what may be concealed behind inherited warnings. Juroe’s wider bibliography moves among thriller, historical, and speculative elements.
