Debra Doxer
Debra Doxer writes contemporary romance and romantic suspense, often placing long emotional histories behind present-day relationships. Play of Light, published in 2014, follows Sarah and Spencer, childhood neighbors whose early closeness is broken by family upheaval and separation. Their later encounter is shaped by what each remembers, what neither fully understood at fourteen, and the difficult work of deciding whether trust can be rebuilt. The novel stands outside Doxer’s two named sequences, Remedy and Candy, but shares their interest in characters carrying consequences from earlier choices. Other novels include Wintertide, Sometime Soon, Breaking Skin, Harmful Rush, Harsh, and Where Butterflies Go. Within that body of work, Play of Light is a self-contained second-chance story with a strand of mystery rather than a series installment. Its seaside childhood setting and later reckoning let Doxer examine how affection can endure without erasing the damage that changed two lives.
