Declan Daly

Declan Daly is an Irish pilot and writer whose aviation career informs nonfiction and speculative fiction. A retired Irish Air Corps commandant, he flew helicopter missions and later worked internationally on the Leonardo AW139. His aviation books include Medevac: Flying the Irish Air Corps HEMS Mission, an account of emergency aeromedical service. Borderline: An Oral History of the Brexit Wars 2020-2022 shifts that operational knowledge into an imagined near future. Published in 2020, Borderline uses testimony from Irish Defence Forces participants to portray how political fracture and external influence might reignite conflict across Ireland. The oral-history structure distributes the story among service members rather than following a single hero. Daly has also reflected on a decade flying VIP passengers internationally. Together, those contexts explain the novel's attention to aircraft, readiness, institutional procedure, and recollection under pressure.
