Exiled as a boy to the court of King Peleus, Patroclus becomes the companion of the king's son Achilles, the golden prince who is half divine. The two grow up together, are trained by the centaur Chiron, and form a bond that lasts through the years. When Helen is taken to Troy and the Greek kings are called to war, Achilles and Patroclus go to fight, and the prophecy that hangs over Achilles draws closer. Written in clear, lyrical prose, the novel won the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2012.
