Dee MacDonald

Dee MacDonald writes women’s fiction and cosy crime shaped by travel, hospitality, and later-life reinvention. The Golden Oldies Guesthouse, published by Bookouture in 2019, follows Tess and Simon as they exchange ordinary retirement plans for the challenge of running a guesthouse in Cornwall. Its comedy grows from new residents, unexpected responsibilities, and the possibility of friendship and romance after familiar routines have changed. MacDonald grew up on a remote farm in the Scottish Highlands, later worked as an air stewardess, and spent more than a decade running bed-and-breakfast businesses. Those experiences give the novel’s guesthouse setting a practical foundation. Among MacDonald’s other books are The Runaway Wife, The Getaway Girls, The Silver Ladies of Penny Lane, and the Kate Palmer mystery series. The Golden Oldies Guesthouse sits within the warmer comic side of her work, focusing on second chances and communal life rather than the investigations that drive her later crime novels.
