Deva Fagan
Deva Fagan writes fantasy and science fiction for young readers, often centering inventive worlds on questions of identity and choice. The Mirrorwood follows Fable, a girl without magic who enters an enchanted forest and encounters the shapeshifter Vycorax. Their competing aims turn a fairy-tale framework into a story about self-knowledge, friendship, and the danger of accepting other people’s definitions. Atheneum Books for Young Readers published the novel, which received a Cybils Award and became an Andre Norton Nebula Award finalist. Fagan’s other middle-grade novels include Rival Magic, Nightingale, and A Game of Noctis, while her later work extends her fantasy writing to older readers.
