Diane Alberts
Diane Alberts publishes romance under her own name and has also written as Jen McLaughlin. Her work includes the Shillings Agency, Take a Chance, Hamilton Family, Modern Fairytales, and Superstars in Love sequences, alongside several independent titles. Absolution appeared in 2012 as the opening Honor Guard story. It centers on Eva and Joseph, former partners forced into renewed contact when Joseph is assigned to protect her from an organized threat. The premise joins reconciliation with professional duty, making past betrayal part of the immediate danger rather than a separate romantic obstacle. Alberts later developed a larger contemporary-romance bibliography, while her Jen McLaughlin name became associated with the Out of Line series and other college-set fiction. Absolution belongs to the earlier phase of that dual career and shows her interest in compressed, high-pressure situations. Its Honor Guard framework also places the relationship within a line built around military and government-service protagonists, giving Joseph’s protective role a formal series context.
