Diane Zahler
Diane Zahler retells traditional stories for young readers through the viewpoint of a resourceful girl. The Thirteenth Princess, published by HarperCollins, reimagines “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” around Zita, a neglected thirteenth daughter who follows the mystery of her sisters’ worn shoes. Before becoming an author, Zahler worked in children’s publishing, while travel and reading have supplied settings and story ideas. Her other fairy-tale novels include A True Princess, Princess of the Wild Swans, and Sleeping Beauty’s Daughters. The Thirteenth Princess was her debut novel and established her characteristic blend of familiar folklore, original characters, and a young protagonist learning to act on her own judgment.
