Dominique Manotti is the writing name of Marie-Noëlle Thibault, born in Paris in 1942, a professor of nineteenth-century economic history who spent years in trade union work and did not publish fiction until she was past fifty. Her first novel, Sombre Sentier (1995), took the Prix Sang d'encre in 1995 and the Prix de Saint-Nazaire the year after, and Margaret Crosland and Elfreda Powell translated it for Arcadia Books in 2001 as Rough Trade. It sits in the Sentier garment district of Paris in 1980, among Turkish workers without papers, a strike, the police and everyone else working the same few streets. Dead Horsemeat, translated by Amanda Hopkinson and Ros Schwartz from À nos chevaux! (1997), is the second book for Superintendent Théo Daquin of the Paris drug squad and runs through racing stables and the money moving behind them. Lorraine Connection won the CWA International Dagger in 2008, and Manotti received the Grand Prix de Littérature Policière in 2011.
