Don Cherry

Don Cherry is a Canadian former hockey player, coach, broadcaster, and author known for turning decades inside the sport into forthright commentary and anecdote. After a long minor-league playing career, he coached the Boston Bruins to four division titles and two Stanley Cup Final appearances, earning National Hockey League coach-of-the-year recognition. Television later made him familiar through the Coach's Corner segment of Hockey Night in Canada. Don Cherry’s Hockey Stories and Stuff gathers memories from his playing, coaching, and broadcasting years in collaboration with sports journalist Al Strachan. McClelland & Stewart published the bestseller in 2009, with Strachan shaping the material while preserving Cherry's characteristic speaking voice. The book became the first of several hockey-story collections associated with Cherry. Publisher records identify both collaborators and the sporting scope, while Sports Illustrated described Strachan's work organising and checking the recollections. The result extends Cherry's broadcast persona into a memoir-like account of hockey culture and personalities.
