Author: Tyler Hamilton

Tyler Hamilton rode for the US Postal team alongside Lance Armstrong, won the Olympic time trial in Athens in 2004, and lost that medal after a doping case that ran for a decade. The Secret Race, written with Daniel Coyle and published in September 2012, is his account of how the doping worked: not as an occasional lapse but as a managed system, with a schedule, a budget, refrigerated blood bags and doctors paid to keep riders a step ahead of the testers. Coyle spent two years on it and more than two hundred hours interviewing him. It appeared about five months after Hamilton gave evidence to the United States Anti-Doping Agency, which said afterwards that his account of Armstrong was truthful and corroborated. It took the William Hill Sports Book of the Year prize for 2012. Armstrong denied all of it, and then in 2013 admitted it.
