Doreen Orion is an American psychiatrist and writer who turned an unconventional year of travel into a comic memoir about marriage, mobility, and changing expectations. A member of the University of Colorado medical faculty, she travelled with her psychiatrist husband, Tim, in a converted bus that carried their dog and two cats. Queen of the Road, published by Broadway Books in 2008, recounts that journey across forty-seven states. Orion begins from her own reluctance to exchange a settled home for prolonged life on the road, then follows the practical failures, negotiations, and discoveries that altered her view.
