Dougal Butler

Dougal Butler is a London-born author and former roadie whose working life became closely tied to the Who. He joined the band’s road crew in the late 1960s and later served as drummer Keith Moon’s personal assistant, chauffeur, and travelling companion. Full Moon is Butler’s memoir of that decade, written with Chris Trengove and Peter Lawrence. First published in the early 1980s and later reissued by Faber and Faber, the book records tours, houses, friendships, and the strain of managing life around Moon’s volatile public career. Butler’s perspective is that of an employee who was also a trusted participant in the band’s daily world, giving the account a different angle from a conventional artist biography. He later published Keith Moon: A Personal Portrait. Public appearances with Who-related organizations have continued to identify Butler with Full Moon and with his first-hand recollections of Moon between 1967 and 1978.
