E. F. Knight was the publishing name of Edward Frederick Knight, an English journalist, traveler, soldier, and experienced sailor. The text originated as Sailing, a manual shaped by Knight’s own time in small craft and by the late nineteenth-century growth of recreational yachting. Amberley revived the work in 2014 under the current title, preserving historical advice while introducing it to modern readers of maritime writing.
