Edward Aubry writes speculative fiction shaped by long revision, formal experiment, and altered realities. Static Mayhem began as a 150,000-word manuscript that he developed through extensive peer feedback after joining TheNextBigWriter in 2006. It won the community’s 2009 Strongest Start competition and was first contracted by WorldMaker Media. A later publisher change prompted Aubry to restructure the material: the original opening became the expanded Prelude to Mayhem, while a revised Static Mayhem continued as the second Mayhem Wave volume. Harrison Cody finds himself stranded in a world from which humanity has vanished, with a voice on the radio offering his only guidance. The revision history explains why editions differ and why series order matters. Aubry transformed one large debut narrative into a sequence with a newly enlarged beginning and a reworked continuation. Static Mayhem consequently combines a post-disappearance science-fiction premise with the visible results of an author reconsidering scale, structure, and the most effective point of entry into his imagined world.
