Edward M. Lerner
Edward M. Lerner writes science fiction from a background in physics and computer science, building stories around scientific ideas and technological consequences. His fiction includes first-contact novels, collaborations with Larry Niven, short stories, and speculative nonfiction. The Sherlock Chronicles & The Paradise Quartet joins two independent novellas in one volume. The Sherlock Chronicles presents a near-future cyber mystery around an artificial intelligence that adopts a detective's role. The Paradise Quartet shifts to a far-future generation-ship saga in which settlers on an exoplanet face consequences of biotechnology used during colonization. Lerner described the pairing as two distinct adventures brought together by publication timing, and Ring of Fire Press issued the volume in 2021. The contrast is characteristic of his range: one story treats digital intelligence and investigation, while the other follows space travel, adaptation, and survival across generations. Each uses a technical premise to drive human choices.
