Edward Payson Roe

Edward Payson Roe (1838-1888) was an American Presbyterian minister and Civil War chaplain who turned to fiction after witnessing the Chicago fire. His earnest, morally themed novels made him one of the best-selling American authors of the 1870s and 1880s. He was also a serious horticulturist.
