Elinor Lipman

Elinor Lipman writes comic novels, short stories, essays, and verse distinguished by dialogue and careful observation of nuanced social behavior. I Can’t Complain collects essays, pairing light subjects with accounts of marriage, widowhood, aging parents, politics, and a return to dating. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt brought out the collection, subtitled (All Too) Personal Essays, during 2013. Lipman's fiction includes Then She Found Me, The Inn at Lake Devine, The Pursuit of Alice Thrift, The View from Penthouse B, and On Turpentine Lane. Then She Found Me was adapted as a film directed by Helen Hunt. Her career includes the story collection Into Love and Out Again and the verse book Tweet Land of Liberty. Lipman often builds humor from family expectations, romantic misjudgments, and negotiations through which people reveal their loyalties.
