Elizabeth Weiss

Elizabeth Weiss uses the glitter and instability of early twentieth-century vaudeville to explore how a family secret can shape two sisters differently. The Sisters Sweet follows Harriet and Josie Szász, whose parents present them onstage as conjoined twins even though the girls perform the illusion through costume and choreography. When Josie abandons the act, Harriet remains with a fractured family and must decide who she can become outside the role built for her. The 2021 G. P. Putnam's Sons edition is titled The Sisters Sweet: A Novel. Weiss grounds its theatrical premise in changing entertainment culture, but the emotional center stays with sisterhood, parental ambition, deception, and the consequences of being turned into a spectacle. Barrie Kreinik narrates the Random House Audio edition, giving the novel a separate performance life suited to its stage-centered story. The book is Weiss's debut novel, and its alternating attention to public illusion and private loyalty establishes the central tension of her family saga.
