Elsa Holland
Elsa Holland writes historical romance and historical mystery built around women whose personal choices intersect with medicine, crime, and social limits. Painted Trust opened her Painted Sisters series in a late Victorian setting, with Edith Appleby working for forensic surgeon Anthony Vaughn in 1898. Holland’s own material describes the book’s combination of romance, anatomical work, and a darker investigation. She later reworked the project, withdrawing Painted Trust and announcing that its revised romance version would appear as Edith, while an expanded Gothic thriller line would use the name E. D. Holland. That transition separated two tonal approaches already present in the original story. Other connected titles include Painted Heart and Painted Strength, which continue the family and investigative context. Painted Trust therefore occupies an important place in Holland’s bibliography as both the first Painted Sisters novel and the foundation for a later division between lighter romance and darker historical suspense.
