Emery Lord
The 2017 Schneider Family Book Award, which the American Library Association gives for writing that portrays the disability experience, went in its teen category to When We Collided. Emery Lord's third novel alternates between Vivi Alexander, a girl living with bipolar disorder, and Jonah Daniels, seventeen, one of six siblings keeping the family and their father's restaurant going after his sudden death in the California town of Verona Cove. Before middle school Lord had lived in Virginia Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Chicago and Columbus; Cincinnati has been home for years. Open Road Summer and The Start of Me & You came before When We Collided, and The Names They Gave Us after.
