Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) lived nearly all her life in Amherst, Massachusetts, withdrawing from society in her thirties and writing in near total privacy. Fewer than a dozen of her roughly 1,800 poems reached print while she lived. She now sits at the center of American literature.
