The fractured, stream of consciousness telling asks readers to assemble the story themselves, and the effort is part of its power. William Faulkner

William Faulkner (1897 to 1962) was an American novelist from Mississippi and one of the towering figures of modern literature. He won the 1949 Nobel Prize and two Pulitzers, setting most of his fiction in the imagined Yoknapatawpha County and pioneering the fractured, stream-of-consciousness style that defined it.
