Emily Hendrickson
Doris Emily Hendrickson wrote Regency romances as Emily Hendrickson, and the era became her whole subject: England was her favourite of the many places she travelled, and she set nearly everything there. Elizabeth's Rake took the Romantic Times award for best Regency of 1993, and Lord Nick's Folly was named among Romance Reviews Today's best books of 2002. Signet issued her in paperback from 1988 into the 2000s, a run that also produced The Dashing Miss Fairchild, Miss Cheney's Charade, Pursuing Priscilla, The Madcap Heiress, Queen of the May, A Scandalous Suggestion, A Perilous Engagement and Lord Barry's Dream House, in which Lady Juliana Hamilton and Lord Edmund Barry fall out over the building of an English manor. Robert Hale of London reissued the work in hardcover, some of it under the further names Emily Harland and Emily Johnson. She also compiled a Regency reference book that other novelists in the field kept as a working handbook. Born in Fargo, North Dakota in 1930, she settled in Reno, Nevada with her husband, a retired airline pilot, and died there in October 2019 at 89.
