Emily Hunter
Emily Hunter is a Canadian environmental activist, filmmaker, writer, and campaign strategist who documents how younger organizers approach ecological problems. The Next Eco Warriors gathers first-person accounts from people working on energy, forests, oceans, Indigenous culture, farming, waste, and public protest. The 2011 Conari Press edition bears the fuller subtitle 22 Young Women and Men Who Are Saving the Planet, and Farley Mowat contributed its foreword. Hunter frames the contributors as practitioners using distinct skills rather than members of a single organization. Her own background includes work with Sea Shepherd, Greenpeace, 350.org, television documentaries, and the short film Activism 2.0, which adapted ideas from the book. She is the daughter of Robert and Bobbi Hunter, figures associated with Greenpeace’s early history, but her work focuses on the tactics and media habits of a later generation. The Next Eco Warriors therefore functions as both an edited collection and a record of networked environmental organizing at the beginning of the 2010s.
