Emily Temple works across fiction, literary editing, teaching, and cultural criticism. She earned a BA from Middlebury College and an MFA in fiction at Virginia, where she held a Henry Hoyns fellowship and received a Henfield Prize. Before becoming managing editor of Literary Hub, she edited Meridian and taught creative and critical writing. Her shorter work has appeared in Colorado Review, Indiana Review, Fairy Tale Review, and Electric Literature’s Recommended Reading, while her Literary Hub essays range across books, publishing, and screen culture. William Morrow published her first novel, The Lightness, in June 2020. Set at a summer meditation centre, it follows a group of girls drawn to the possibility of levitation and uses their pursuit to examine friendship, belief, and obsession.
